Borghans
Borghans, based in Nuth, specialises in the production of outstanding beef products. The company has been active as meat wholesaler for several decades and caters to both the local and the European export market. With a weekly production of 400 tonnes of beef, Borghans is highly capable of meeting the needs of this market.
Irish Steer Beef
Eating habits and taste preferences differ vastly from one part of Europe to the next. Some prefer the meat of a bull or a steer, while others like their beef to come from a cow. In order to best accommodate these two preferences, Borghans maintains two separate product lines. The company has been importing the steer beef of the highest quality from Ireland for many years. The buyers at Borghans travel to Ireland almost every week to make their selection with the suppliers. The selected animals are then slaughtered at one of the fully certified abattoirs with which Borghans collaborates. Only R and U grade steer beef with a carcass weight of 350 to 430 kg is selected. The meat of Irish steers is renowned for its wonderful succulence, flavour and exceptionally high uniformity. The meat also has an attractive colour. These qualities have made Irish beef a favourite across the whole of Europe.
Beef from cows
To also accommodate the taste preference of consumers who prefer their beef to come from cows, Borghans processes some 200 tonnes of O and R grade beef a week. This kind of beef has a good conformation and fatness. The processing of beef from cows has formed part of the core activities of Borghans for decades. In recent years the origin of the meat has changed due to extensive mergers and takeovers. In the past we got most of our beef from the Netherlands and Germany, but Eastern Europe - and of late the UK and Ireland as well - have in recent years proven to be perfectly capable of supplying a top-class product. In this regard we focus specifically on beef with a carcass weight from 260 kg to ensure that the product contains the correct fat percentage and sufficient consistency of supply.
